About Wellsville

The City of Wellsville has been around for a long time.  It was established in 1884 and still has the original brick streets in the downtown area of Main street.  The city itself has a population of close to 2,000 residents and in the last year is starting to get attention from builders and is working to grow its city.  It is an attractive area to build because it sits just outside of the city limits and offers easy access to I-35 to get to other larger surrounding cities.

Wellsville sits in Franklin County and the Franklin County Economic Development office is very involved in pushing for growth in this area and in bringing more amenities to the area.  A new single family subdivision is being developed at The Courtyards at Walnut Creek and there are also new townhomes that are being built right off of I-35 that will be mostly rental units.

Wellsville offers many community services and amenities to their community.  There are several churches in town and just outside of town, antique stores, auto body shops and auto repair.  All of the typical offices for dental, chiropractic, primary care and a local pharmacy.  There is a newly renovated veterinary clinic for those furry family members and a very nice coffee shop that serves breakfast and lunch.  There are a couple of other restaurants in town including Mexican food and Chicago style dogs.  There is also an AirBNB and VRBO rental above the “On The Bricks” restaurant that offers a great place for family members to stay while visiting in town.

Wellsville is a town you can feel safe in as it has a newly remodeled police and fire station and they have many officers available to meet your safety needs.  You will see officers driving around town and monitoring the town at all hours of the day and night. Wellsville is often used as a training location for officers so there is always someone available when you need them. You will get to know your 911 help personally as you see them working throughout the town.

The city meetings are always open to the public for suggested improvements and requests from the public.  They will listen at these meetings, allow you to speak and be heard and will try to get any issues resolved that have been brought to their attention.

The Wellsville community supports many events and fund raisers and are always offering ways to raise money for those in need in their community.  Between the Chamber of Commerce and the City, the people of Wellsville are well taken care of.  The Chamber is a big supporter of the FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) chapter at the middle and high school, and works to help with fund raisers and events that the kids of the community are involved in.

The schools in USD 289 are all in amazing shape and have been updated to meet the needs of today’s kids.  At the High School they have private collaboration spaces to work in teams, new updated weight and locker rooms, updated equipment and rooms for continued education.

Wellsville is definitely a great place to put down some roots and to make great friends while still being close to Kansas City and all that it has to offer.
