Baldwin City KS is a thriving small community that still has a well-maintained downtown square where the city streets are still made of brick. The downtown area has several small businesses that include Homestead Kitchen and Bakery that sells the BEST and Largest cookies in the area as well as breakfast and lunch items! There is also a Mexican restaurant, a pizza place, and a couple of coffee shops. The Town Galleria is a shop where local artists can display handmade designer specific jewelry, home décor, leather works, and much more! There is a newer brewery that boasts a large indoor and outdoor entertainment space called the Baldwin City Beer Company. The beautifully maintained Baker University campus is always busy with people walking from place to place and the highlight of the campus is the Baker University Football Field known as Liston Stadium, where many games have taken place over the years. It was founded in 1958 and was the first four-year university in Kansas. This stadium is surrounded by a unique rock fence that serves as a memorial and features pillars with plaques dedicated to Baker students who died in the Great War. Baldwin City also has a local park on Grove Street that has not only a playground for kids to entertain themselves, but also a public swimming pool and monarch garden. On the main drag (Old 56 Hwy) there are a lot of local businesses that support the city. In conclusion, Baldwin City has many historical buildings throughout, and started out as a trail stop on the Santa Fe Trail and the Baldwin City Santa Fe Depot is now part of the National Register of Historic Places.

With a population of close to 5,000 this small town hosts the oldest four-year university in Kansas known as Baker University. The historic downtown area remains a nostalgic community where people walk up and down the streets and enjoy several amenities in the area. The annual Maple Leaf Festival runs the third weekend in October and draws a large crowd of people to tour the area, sample many foods, and to visit the many vendor booths that line up and down the streets. Baldwin city is known as the Quilt Capital of Kansas and has a rich quilting history which offers a Quilt Show during the annual Maple Leaf Festival. The city is touted as “One of the best places to live in Kansas” as it offers a slightly suburban feel and resides within 30 minutes of larger cities like Lawrence and Olathe Kansas.
